Ray Lewis & Partner Create College Scholarship for Women
Wrightsville Beach, NC, December 14, 2016— Former Baltimore Ravens football great Ray Lewis and his business partner are launching a limited-edition t-shirt line to help fund their new scholarship and internship program for women. The scholarship will be funded through profits from the t-shirt sales and a limited, 100-bottle edition of Ray’s Reserve, a unique bourbon just released on December 1st, through Daytoon Distributors, which Lewis co-founded and serves as CEO.
“I’m looking forward toward ways that I can help my fellow Americans, and especially women, get ahead in life,” said Lewis, who counts Daytoon Distributors and Ray’s Reserve as his newest ventures after a football career that spanned 17 years. “With football in the past, I’m concentrating my efforts on promoting greatness in others and helping them see the greatness within themselves.”
Daytoon Distributors is making only 1,000 of the chocolate brown, high-end t-shirts, which will sell for only $20, including shipping. One hundred percent of the profits from the sale of each t-shirt will fund the Time to Shine Foundation and Scholarship program for women. Each t-shirt will come with a certificate of authenticity. T-shirts can be purchased at Ray’s Reserve (www.raysreserve.com), A Time to Shine Scholarship (www.itsmytimetoshine.org), and Daytoon Distributors (www.daytoon.com).
The Time to Shine Scholarship, sponsored by Daytoon Distributors, will target female high school seniors planning to enroll in a community college. Also, it will target women who provide financial support for their families by giving them a hand up to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Time to Shine Scholarships can also be awarded to female recipients who have overcome extraordinary obstacles, including poverty, domestic violence, and drug abuse.
“Our goal is to create a scholarship that fills the gaps that other scholarships for women may not cover,” said Mark Bloomquist, co-founder of both Daytoon Distributors. “And we also want to provide a dynamic work experience through an internship to help build the recipient’s resume. Really, we’re helping build a tomorrow and helping fulfill a dream for someone through what we’re already doing.”
Award money can be used to offset any costs associated with efforts to attain a higher education or skills training, such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, childcare and transportation. All winners are required to work for one summer internship in either Greensboro, North Carolina, or Baltimore, Maryland.
